Kate Hudson Celebrates “Song Sung Blue” Premiere with Neil Diamond and Her Family in Aspen

Kate Hudson is closing out 2025 with a celebration full of family, film, and music — and Neil Diamond himself.

The 46-year-old actress stepped out in Aspen, Colorado on December 23 for a special screening of her new film Song Sung Blue, joined by her fiancé Danny Fujikawa and a star-studded group of family members. In attendance were her mother Goldie Hawn and longtime partner Kurt Russell, along with brothers Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell, Wyatt’s wife Meredith Hagner, and several members of the extended Hudson-Russell clan.

Adding even more sparkle to the evening was none other than Neil Diamond himself, 84, who attended the screening with his wife, Katie McNeil Diamond. Held in the festive ski town of Aspen — where Hawn and Russell have owned a home for decades — the event was a warm family affair set against the snowy Colorado backdrop.

“Song Sung Blue” — A Tribute to Tribute Bands

Song Sung Blue stars Hudson alongside Hugh Jackman, Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens, and Jim Belushi. The film tells the story of Mike and Claire Sardina — played by Jackman and Hudson — a married couple and founders of the Neil Diamond tribute band “Lightning & Thunder,” who go from struggling musicians in the late 1980s to unexpected touring success.

During the film’s New York City premiere on December 11, Jackman and Hudson joked that a real-life Lightning & Thunder tour might be in the works. Hudson admitted that Diamond’s music wasn’t something she grew up listening to, but she developed a deep appreciation through working on the film.

“Having Neil Diamond’s music as the backdrop to play these real-life people, who just were such fans,” she said. “And then, watching the movie was just such a joy… I felt like it has a little bit of everything in it. It’s entertaining, but you walk away feeling inspired.”

A Family Holiday Tradition

The screening doubled as a family holiday celebration. Aspen has long been a beloved retreat for the Hudson-Russell family, who gather there annually during the Christmas season. Between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s children, the couple are now proud grandparents of eight — making these holiday moments even more special.

With the screening of Song Sung Blue, the family added another chapter to their shared memories in Aspen — this time with a film that celebrates music, love, and second chances.

Song Sung Blue hits theaters nationwide on December 25, offering audiences a feel-good story infused with Neil Diamond classics and heartfelt performances from an all-star cast.
