Neil Diamond Honored with Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award at the 39th Annual Carousel Ball
Music icon Neil Diamond received the Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award on October 11 during the 39th Annual Carousel Ball, held at the Hyatt Regency Denver in the Colorado Convention Center. The prestigious gala, which supports the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, successfully raised over $2 million to advance type 1 diabetes research and care through the Children’s Diabetes Fund.
A Tribute to a Life of Music and Philanthropy
The honor celebrated Diamond’s remarkable career and his long-standing dedication to charitable causes. As an advisory board member for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, he has been an unwavering supporter of clinical research and patient care for many years, performing at numerous Carousel Ball events in both Colorado and Los Angeles.
Accepting the award with characteristic humility and charm, Diamond shared heartfelt words with the audience:
“I’ve been through it all now, and I’m still coming back for more,” he said. “I’m proud to be a champion for this cause and grateful to be part of a night that brings hope to so many. Thank you, thank you and thank you.”
A Night of Stars and Songs
The celebration featured a surprise video tribute from actor Hugh Jackman, who will star alongside Kate Hudson in the upcoming film Song Sung Blue — a fictional story about a couple performing in a Neil Diamond tribute band.
“I’m thrilled you’re getting this award because you are inspirational—not just through your music and creativity, but through your heart and your generosity,” Jackman said. “As a performer myself, you inspire me every single day. The way you connect with audiences, the way you connect to your music, the authenticity of who you are—it’s everything to me.”
A Performance That Moved the Room
Though officially retired from touring since 2018 following his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Diamond once again took to the stage for a powerful, emotional performance. He was joined by Nick Fradiani, who portrays him in The Neil Diamond Musical: A Beautiful Noise. Together, they delivered a stirring rendition of Diamond’s 1969 classic “Sweet Caroline”, bringing the audience to its feet and filling the ballroom with warmth, nostalgia, and gratitude.
The Carousel Ball has long been recognized as one of America’s leading charity galas, attracting celebrities, philanthropists, and advocates dedicated to improving lives through research and awareness. This year’s event not only celebrated Neil Diamond’s legendary contributions to music, but also honored his enduring spirit of compassion, resilience, and generosity.
