Il Volo left audiences in awe with their breathtaking live performances of Leonard Cohen’s timeless classic “Hallelujah” during their recent concerts in Germany.

From the very first note, the trio — Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble — commanded the stage with a blend of operatic elegance and heartfelt emotion, giving the legendary song a new and unforgettable resonance.

Backed by a full orchestra, the performances highlighted Ignazio Boschetto’s soaring high notes, adding extraordinary power to a piece already cherished around the world. Fans described the concerts as “divine,” “sublime,” and “a true celebration of music,” applauding Il Volo for transforming every phrase into something monumental.

Originally written by Leonard Cohen for his 1984 album Various Positions, “Hallelujah” has been interpreted by numerous artists, including Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, Jennifer Hudson, Willie Nelson, Susan Boyle, Pentatonix, K.D. Lang, Bob Dylan, Brandi Carlile, Chester Bennington, and more. Wainwright’s rendition gained wider recognition after its inclusion in the 2001 Shrek soundtrack, and following Cohen’s passing in 2016, the song reached number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Il Volo’s interpretation blends operatic grandeur with deep emotion, offering a performance that touched listeners in a powerful and lasting way.

Their German tour was one highlight after another, and the trio is set to continue their momentum with an upcoming performance in Stuttgart — promising the same signature fusion of Italian passion, vocal mastery, and modern artistry.

Fans have even more to look forward to: Il Volo will return to Prague on October 18, 2027, marking their fourth appearance at the O2 Arena. The event is expected to deliver more breathtaking music and unforgettable moments.

According to American Songwriter, Leonard Cohen originally wrote around 80 verses before choosing the final lyrics. When asked about the countless covers of “Hallelujah,” he shared with The Guardian in 2012, “I’m very happy that it’s being sung.”
